The Great Easter Egg Hunt
Easter Egg hunts are a great way to bring communities together. By sponsoring such events local churches position themselves as integral elements to the health and happiness of their communities. "The Great Easter Egg Hunt" provides terrific opportunities to break down the barriers of unfamiliarity. While the kids are playing, parents get to know each other. We launched this event for the first time several years ago, and now it is eagerly anticipated every year both in our church and in the community at large. Here are some simple instructions:

Purchase enough plastic multicolored eggs for twelve per child.???? You will also need to purchase items to go inside all of the eggs.???? Eggs can contain peanut free candies and chocolates, Easter stickers, tattoos, small Easter toys and so on.???? Great treat ideas can be found at www.smilemakers.com and www.orientaltrading.com.

Gather together a group of volunteers including some of your teens to help you prepare and stuff the eggs.???? Number each child's twelve eggs with a permanent marker. (i.e. 12 eggs with number 1, 12 eggs with number two, and so on.)???? As you number the eggs divide them into twelve separate piles so that each of the children's eggs will be stuffed with something different.???? Next step, stuff those eggs with candy or other Easter items you have purchased.???? You may find that some of the eggs could use a small piece of clear hockey tape to help keep them shut.???? Be sure to take one of each child' eggs and put it into a clear loot type bag and set aside.???? All other eggs can be mixed together once they are stuffed.

On the day of your Easter Egg Hunt, have a couple of volunteers go outside and spread all the stuffed eggs around for the children to collect.???? Gather the children together and give each child one bag with a sample numbered egg inside.???? Instruct the children to find eleven more eggs with the same number printed on it's shell as the one in their bag.

When all the children have received a bag with an egg set them loose and see who can find all their missing eggs the fastest.???? It's helpful to have volunteers on hand to help the children find their own eggs.???? After the children have found all their eggs, encourage them to empty their eggs into their loot bags and put all the empty eggs into a box so they can be used again next year.

Plan on offering coffee and donuts to parents, as this event provides an excellent opportunity for integration between church and community.????
